Comfortemp® Fiber Balls by Freudenberg Provide Better Thermal Performances

Freudenberg launches the world's first flakes made with fiber balls on ISPO MUNICH 2017 (Munich International Sporting Goods Fair). The garments with these comfortemp® fiber ball flakes have better performances in thermal resistance, light weight and air permeability.

Down is the first choice for warm apparel in the whole industry. However, Freudenberg has introduced a new thermal material: comfortemp® fiber ball flakes. This unprecedented fiber flake is a high-quality thermal insulation material with soft feather filling the advantages. Comparing with down, the comfortemp® is 80% higher on thermal performance than the same soft down. Napapijri considers the comfortemp® as the best promising materials and they already launch the Superlight Parka in A/W 2017, which has comfortemp® fiber flakes and Napapijri’s  THERMO-FIBRE® technology.

“Fiber balls are normal as filling materials for garments. But it is difficult to produce continuous fiberfill. Comfortemp® as the continuous fiberfill can achieve the goal of better thermal performance with our technology.” Said by Ulrich Scherbel, the general manager of Freudenberg high performance apparel.

For consumers, comfortemp® fiber ball fillings have the following advantages:
(1) Comparable warm performance with down.
Comfortemp® fiber ball flakes are 50% to 80% warmer than traditional flakes. This material consists of many small fiber balls, they have many small airbags between each other, thus forming a good warm performance with high thermal resistance performance. (How to determine thermal resistance performance, checking sweating thermal guarded hotplate for more details.)
(2) 2 times of air permeability of traditional material.
Many small airbags make the material very permeable to air. Fibrous balls form a special pore structure, they play a decisive role in obtaining a high level of air permeability. (Air permeability tester is the professional testing instrument for determination of textile air permeance.)
(3) Uniform structure after laundry.
Comfortemp® fiber ball flakes have a uniform structure to provide uniform thermal resistance. This structure can be maintained even after washing.
(4) 100% animal protection.
Comfortemp® fiber ball flakes are perfect substitutes of downs, which means that athletes and other wearers are not bothered by animal protection problems.

For garment manufacturers, comfortemp® fiber ball fillings have the following advantages:
(1) Improving design freedom.
The continuous flakes of comfortemp® fiber ball don’t need extra working for fixing sewing. This will raise the producing efficiency and design freedom.
(2) Convenient to manufacturing.
Compared with down and loose fiber balls, the use of comfortemp® fiber ball flake for garments processing is very simple. The comfortemp® fiber ball flakes can be sewn like traditional fabrics.
(3) Reduce transportation costs.
Comfortemp® fiber flakes can be vacuum packed and it will reduce the transportation costs.

Freudenberg's comfortemp® technology enables soft touch with laundry performance. It also has high tensile strength with smaller volume. The comfortemp® fiber ball flakes release the unity of the apparent opposites which can not be achieved by other materials.

Comfortemp® warm material

At ISPO MUNICH 2017, Freudenberg High Performance Materials will also exhibit the entire comfortemp® product line. These new warm materials are suitable for processing all kinds of fashion, sportswear and outdoor clothing. Comfortemp® thermal materials combine innovation and simplicity, performance and comfort together. Comfortemp® products have been tested by independent certification bodies in the coldest areas of Russia.
